In every Club WebTV issue, we will publish WebTV Networks-related stories, suggestions and comments submitted by our customers. If you have an amusing or informational story, a suggestion, or a comment that would be of general interest to all members, please send us a message at clubwebtv@webtv.net. We'll make every effort to include your submission in a future issue of Club WebTV. Please be sure to state in your message that your submission is for the Customer Corner column.
Thanks to all the club members who sent submissions for this month's
column! While not all submissions may be reasonably published here, rest
assured that your suggestions and requests have been duly noted. Here is
a sampling of club members' comments received in response to the premier
issue of Club WebTV! Editors' comments are
in green.
Best coined phrase: "clickums" - referring to links that
take you to another page or site.
Best Customer Corner story:
A club member called to cancel her account because
her home had been robbed the night before and her WebTV Internet terminal, among
other things, was stolen. When our Customer Care Specialist looked up her
account, he was able to find what phone number her terminal was being used
from. The club member gave this number to the New Orleans police who used
this information to apprehend the thieves that afternoon. (WebTV:
ridding your streets of crime!)
... My wife enjoys it, after never liking computers.
(The simple and effective remote control is a user's dream.) I like it.
S-video input to a large TV screen. (What a way to really see what www
can deliver.) I have been envolved with computers since 1949 - yes, forty
nine. But this system is a first glimpse of what the 21st century will
bring. P.S.: It's not "half a loaf." It is a slice of Sacher
Torte. (Yummm.)
Dear clubwebtv, This has been a thrilling Internet email
service for me since hook-up on Feb. 4,1997. You have answered my many,
many questions, helped fix access problems, and you have been very patient
with a sometimes crying new baby, even with a temper tantrum at only 1
month old on WebTV! Thanks so much for your care! I really appreciate it!
Having WebTV has been one of the biggest blessings in the 50 years of my
life! Looking forward to new services! (Even
50-year-old babies deserve our best!)
I am walking down a long street called web tv,
on each side of the street are long driveway with ten different houses
all shapes, sizes and colors. which house do i want to see what is inside
today. well i better give my self a few hours because i know exploring
each house and all its many thousands of rooms will be always fun and fascinating.
thats what the internet is to me it may not be very poetic but it is all
still new to me i am running hard to catch up (Don't
forget to stop and smell the roses.)
I want to thank you for developing a system that
is truely "user friendly". I have a computer and modem but found
it frustrating. My sons convinced me to buy WebTV. Oh, I thank them. I
have only used this system for three days and I could be your best representative!!
Everything is so simple to use and understand. I love the fact that if
I get lost or bored with what I'm looking at all I need to do is hit "Home".
A great feature. I am convinced that every home should own WebTV. Can I
buy some stock in your company...I could SELL this system. For your information...I
am a 54 year old mother and grandmother. I have been using computers for
about 12 years. This IS the best! I even connected the unit myself. (Thanks.
Grandmothers unite! You'll have to hold off on the stock, though; the company is privately held at this time.)
web tv is so phat I wish it was free cuz the
bill is so expensive my mom cant hardly afford it. I am a 16 year old girl
and i want a web tv on every tv in the world (Eventually,
we'll be phat all over the globe!)
First this is probably one of the better technologies
that has surfaced in the 90's. I bought the WebTV internet box to test
for my sister. I liked it so much that I kept it and bought her one (and
I have a computer). For the price and performance of this product there
is no better way to connect to the Web (and it is simple PnP technology).
I have the "Black Box" connected to my entertainment system which
allows me the advange of real stereo (not those weakling speakers on my
sound card) especially when sampling music, or composing an email
on my dining room table, or getting information (music,
movies and etc) putting it on a VHS tape and giving it to friends to vidy
later. Personally this box is a no brainer if you want just to "shred"
the Web.... (Well said, Sir! Thank you
for the compliment.)
It's been about a month since I had my Sony Webtv
system and I'd say it's very addicting. Due to the speed and the ability
to just hit prefered keys on the keyboard is brilliant. Hey I'm even making
money with this thing, keep it up. (Good for
you. Maybe the terminal will pay for itself?)
hello my name is frank and i purched the webtv
about three months ago. the experiance has been sensational.)
i have my web tv working with rca 60 inch proscan
, let me tell you, the images and text come out superb.)
the webtv on the bigscreen is the ultimate toy
for the couch potato .)
its great because everybody in the family surfs
the web together and has a great time.)
another that is amazing is the speed that the
text and images come through onto the tv screen.)
my hats are off to the people at webtv for bringing
such an excellent product to the market!!!!!!!! (The
family that plays together....)
Webtv is a wonderful means of researching topics!!
I have already assisted several people in finding information on some really
obscure topics for research papers! I really love surfing the 'net and
just letting it take me wherever!
Hey, I dont care what anyone says, this WebTV
is the future. When i first saw it I was astonished. Who would have thought
you can see the internet on your t.v..I had to go out and get one when
they came out. Ive been on for a few months now and its great. I even have
my own homepage that everyone around the world can see. And what a picture...I
have my internet on my 50' screen tv and WOW!! alot different then looking
at a 13' computer monitor. And about the first upgrade....It was great!
. I cant imagine whats on the next. Take Care! and GO WEBTV! (We'd
be happy to publish your Web site address in Club WebTV, as long as it's
not commercial.)
I have five users filed with favorites. I have
eliminated all of them by doing the following. sending and email
to myself subject exp: NEWS URL'S and I list the
URL's of all the news URL's starting with http:// my URL's are highlighted
and I can jump to them without switching users! (Terrific
suggestion! Thanks.)
I purchased a WebTV unit for my 67 year old Mom
as an Xmas gift. She was so interested in all the WWW addresses she was
seeing everywhere & wanted to surf the net. I did not want the expense
or the hassle of using a PC. So I thought I would try one of your units.
I cannot tell you the amount of time and fun my Mom is having on the WWW.
She is sometimes on it for hours at a time. She has many physical health
problems which prevents her from walking, but now she is able to bring
the world into her living room. The WebTV unit is just what we needed!
It is simple to use and understand. Thank you for inventing it.... (We
have many, many disabled members. In fact, most of us have taken "relay" calls assisting people who are hearing-impaired, spoken to members who were in the hospital for
awhile and took their WebTV Internet terminal with them for company, and talked with Directors in Senior Centers.)
Dear Mr. Perlman
I would like to say Thank You very much to your
great staff. The few times I had a question or problem, your staff was
very helpful on the phone and very, very quick to respond to my email.
I was impressed on the information I received from them. Your staff is
doing a great job and just wanted you to know what a terrific job they
are doing. Webtv is without question is AWESOME. Once again, Thank You
to your staff and of course, yourself. (A collective
"...aw shucks!")
Dear WebTV,
Just stumbled across a VERY useful feature of
the wireless keyboard and thought I'd pass is along to my fellow Club WebTV
members.)
Holding down the [Cmd] key and hitting the Scroll
buttons will take you to the Top and Bottom of any web page. I have found
this to be an invaluable navigation tool for those long web pages. ps.
Love the new Club. Love my WebTV.
The Webtv has been great for me! Even tho I am
on AOL, have a big site of my own and am active with the development of
other sites, I get a big kick out of this Webtv! I have been able to get
friends to buy the Webtvs and get on the internet - people who would not
touch a computer with a ten foot pole! And it is great to be able to hear
the live race calls from the race tracks!..... (Two
bucks to win on Secretariat!)
My keyboard, after heavy use for a month, started
not printing letters and I'd have to press some buttons 3-4 times to get
the letters to print! Also, the keyboard's response time was at a snail's
pace! Finally, after tearing my hair out and uttering a few unprintables,
it occurred to me that maybe if I changed to fresh batteries, it might
work better. Yep, that did the trick! (Your
infrared keyboards take triple-A batteries, and remote controls take double-A's.)
Attention members. You can set up 'group' mailings
to several email addresses at once quite easily.
For example, go to 'addresses' and under the name field type a name for
your group like "pen-pals". Then in the email address field,
type all the email address of everyone you want in your group. Be sure
to seperate each email address with a comma, except for the last address.
Example:friend1@webtv.net,friend2@aol.com,friend3@juno.com When ever you
want to send an email to everyone in your group, just select the name
of your group from your email address listing. WebTV will fill in all
of the email addresses that you have entered in the 'to:' field, automatically!
(All of our members thank you for this great advice!)
Once upon a time, I would play games on my television
most of the night and would wake up in the morning feeling drained and
empty before going to my swingshift job. But due to Webtv and the information
that I am able to access, I feel that less of my time is used on unproductive
entertainment, and that more time is spent on information that can enhance
my life rather than detract from it. (Would
that we were all so mature. We're glad to hear from you!)
I just read about the next upgrades in the Club
WebTV newsletter. There is no mention of image viewing capabilities under
"Discuss". Was this omitted from the blurb due to an oversight
or because we won't have that capability after all? On another topic...
You people at WeCare have really improved in just the two months that I've
been here. At one point, I waited over a week for a reply - and the reply
I got wasn't all that useful. Lately, however, it's just a matter of a
couple of days for a response. And, when the response does come, it's informative.
Keep up the good work - no matter what I, or any of my alter egos, posts
on the WebTV Talk board :) . Thank you! (Indeed,
you may view images in Discuss. Please see the questions and answers in WebTV Tips for
more hints on newsgroups.)
