Yes, Virginia, You Will Be Able To Print!
While WebTV Networks, Inc. does not, as yet, have a firm release date,
all indications are that members will have printing capabilities in late
spring. Our engineers and those at Hewlett-Packard have been working together
fast and furiously to develop an easy-to-use interface that will allow
WebTV users to print out web pages in B&W or color. Take a look at the press release for more information, and check back here each month, or on WebTV Networks' home page at http://webtv.net for the latest printer news.
IRC Comes to Club WebTV Members
By popular demand, the WebTV Network will soon be able to support IRC (Internet Relay
Chat) chat lines, in addition to the BBS- and HTML-based chat lines already
supported. WebTV Networks has partnered with a number of popular IRC providers, allowing club members access to hundreds of interesting chat rooms. Look for this exciting development to be released in late spring. In the meantime, for listings of chat lines
that the WebTV Network currently supports, go to Explore->Entertainment->Cool Stuff->Let's
Chat or see The Playground for another cool new chat site!
Upgrade News
By the end of March, you'll have many more features to use with your
WebTV Internet terminal. Below are some of the exciting highlights:
Mail: Messages that you have Discarded and Sent will be
available for you to view again for seven (7) days from the time you Discarded
or Sent the message. You'll be able to view them again, send them again,
or save them in storage.
Additionally, and back by the popular demand of club members, you
will once again be able to choose several e-mail names from your address
list when you wish to send a message to more than one recipient at a time.
Background Music: You will be able to choose from Ambient, Classical, Funk & Jazz, Pop, or Techno style music. Each music category will include several different songs, and you'll
be able to choose one or more types to listen to at once. And, as time goes on, we'll be adding new choices to the list of selections! Note: You will
need to choose at least one style for the background music to play.
Discuss: WebTV Networks will proudly give you access to ALL the Usenet
newsgroups on the Internet! You'll be able to find groups of people
who subscribe to topic-specific discussion groups, read their comments, and post
your own replies. A word of caution: Some discussion groups discuss adult-orientated topics. Anyone with e-mail capabilities and no parental access restrictions may access them. If
you have minors at home, and you don't want them to have access to Discuss, you should consider restricting their accounts.
Subscriber Information: You'll be able to modify much
of your billing and subscriber information yourself. In addition to being able to change passwords, the primary user of a terminal will be able to go to "Setup", and then "WebTV Users", and update his mailing address, telephone number, payment type, credit card number, and/or expiration date.
Around Town Gets Remodeled: You'll find local weather
- where YOU are - delivered in a weekly format. You will be able to see aerial photos,
AND, if you're going somewhere, or are concerned about a relative in another
location, you can look at other towns by entering the appropriate zip code. This way, you'll always have the latest on-line weather information for that area and links
to useful local information. By default, Around Town will tell you about the nearest major metropolitan area that we have information on.
Using WebTV (formerly Instructions): The Instructions
section on your Home Page will get a face-lift. It will be called "Using
WebTV," and you'll have the choice of bringing up the current and past
issues of Club WebTV, enhanced Instructions, taking the WebTV Tour, and finding information on how to contact the manufacturer of your Internet terminal.
Look For: Soon you'll be able to go to exactly what you're hunting for in Explore! By using the new "Look For" feature, you will be able to search all of Explore for sites matching what you seek.
Explore Spotlights
"Spotlights" are now located throughout the various Explore
menus, and feature fun and informative web sites that have been critically
reviewed by WebTV Networks. The Spotlights give a quick review of the site
and related topics, and will be updated on a regular basis.
